If you hold the panic button or fire alarm button on the keypad, an alarm is transmitted to the monitoring centre and emergency services are dispatched. Note: This kind of alarm cannot be cancelled
Do not worry! Enter the code to silence the system then call our monitoring station and let them know it was a false alarm. If you are not able to enter the code, the monitoring station will call the contacts provided until someone is reached for direction.
There is a brief period the system allows for the system to be shut off. The monitoring centre will see this come in as ‘open/close cancel’ and will only note this as a log and not call. However we can set up the account so that you receive a call every time the system alarm goes off due to accident/user error.
If your alarm is sounding, please call the monitoring station immediately to let them know it is a false alarm.

System

Yes, in most cases. Take pictures of system keypad and main panel mentioning your wishes and we can quickly determine if we can assist or provide alternatives.
They can, however we recommend a cellular communicator in these applications. VOIP and SIP lines have proven to be unreliable at times when it comes to alarm signaling.
The good news, your system does not require a landline, however it does require a path of communication via a cellular or IP alarm communicator. Please notify us prior to canceling your landline to discuss your options 1-800-937-9211.
Yes, you will need to notify us about the impending switch. Once the switch of phone companies has been completed, we will need to ensure that the new service is working properly with your alarm. Note: this may require a service call to activate the system on the new phoneline.
Yes, we offer a full range of applications allowing for remote administration of your alarm and camera systems. You can arm, disarm, add or remove user codes and monitor activity on your alarm system from an app on your smartphone from anywhere. Monitored security systems are systems that are actively monitored by a Monitoring Station. When the system detects a break-in, fire, or other emergency, it notifies the security team and, in some cases, emergency responders.
The answer is no, however, With a local non-monitored system, you’re in control of your alarm system, even during an emergency. A Monitored System is watched 24/7, so if something goes wrong, you will be notified. Without that notification, you might not know about an event if your system loses cellular services or you miss an alarm.

Emergency

Yes, in case of power failure, the backup battery will activate to maintain alarm protection for several hours. If your battery is low, a low battery signal will be sent to the monitoring centre and you’ll be notified.
Yes, you can call our after-hours service by dialing 403-253-7820 and press 9 to reach our on-call technician.

Batteries

Yes, as long as you know what type of battery is needed and you feel confident enough to do so. You can refer to information on changing batteries under our resource page IMPORTANT: Please notify the monitoring station when you are changing your batteries as this may send a system tamper signal to our monitoring centres.
This depends on the type of system and even the type of sensor you have. Information on changing batteries is listed under our resource page. Select your system and download the instructions. If you do not see your system listed here, or are having trouble replacing your battery, you are welcome to email us a picture of the panel or device and we can help you. You can also contact us at 1-800-937-9211 IMPORTANT: Please notify the monitoring station when you are changing your batteries as this may send a system tamper signal to our monitoring centres.
The average battery lasts 3 years. Certain sensors that are constantly triggered, such as a motion detector, which works even when the system is not armed, might need to be replaced earlier than that. We recommend that if you need to replace a battery more often than once per year, please call us as this could mean that the sensor itself is faulty.

Access Control

Access control is one of the best ways to secure your premise. It entails installing card or fob readers at certain points of entry, or secured areas within your premise. It eliminates the use of keys, which for apartment buildings is beneficial as when one fob is lost, it simply needs to be taken out of programming. If a key is lost, the building needs to be re-keyed.

ULC Fire Monitoring

ULC Standards develops and publishes standards and specifications for products having a bearing on fire, life safety and security, crime prevention, energy efficiency, environmental safety, security of assets and facilities, live working and workplace safety and other areas. There are regulations in place for how a building with a fire panel must send signals to a monitoring station. Certified Alarms is proud to be a member of UL Canada, and we offer systems that meet and are installed to ULC regulations.
It depends on the building code and if the premises requires a Fire System or Sprinkler system.
If there is a yellow triangle showing on the keypad: There is a trouble notification. This could indicate that there is low battery, a system communication failure, trouble in one of the zones. Please refer to the manual listed under our resource page on Trouble Conditions or contact us for assistance. Note: To quiet the beeping temporarily press 1234 on the keypad.

Testing

Yes. In addition to our daily test of signals, it is up to you to make sure your system is working properly, and your security devices have not been compromised. Replacing batteries and doing regular communication tests is vital.
Call our monitoring station and have them place your account on test. Arm the system for Away and open and close the door and leaving the premise to allow system to arm. Wait for the delay to end ( plus 30 seconds) and return to trip each sensor by opening a door or walking in front of a motion. Once completed disarm system and call station asking them what they received as for signals. Note: once system is disarmed give station 60 seconds before calling to have our systems refresh. Our station or offices can always expand on best practices.
